Are you a teacher, scout leader, or other group leader looking to make the most of your visit to the zoo? Try one of our exciting and education onsite programs! Zoo Safari programs take place during zoo hours, while Flashlight Safari programs take place after hours! Please see the program descriptions below and book your onsite educational program today!
Zoo Safari programs engage students in hands-on learning during a field trip to our 43-acre living classroom. Educators will work with teachers, groups, or scout leaders to tailor an experience that supports group needs and complements curriculum or you can choose from our curriculum list. In the zoo’s classroom, students will take part in an hour-long multi-media program featuring live animal encounters and animal artifacts such as skulls, furs, and feathers. Depending on the group’s size and needs, other unique opportunities such as a visit to the zoo’s diet kitchen, a chat with a zookeeper, or an animal enrichment viewing at an exhibit may be available. Whether your group is learning about life cycles or the genetic management of captive-bred animals, the Zoo Safari has a program for you!**
Carefully crafted programs meet NGSS and NYS Common Core and Living Environment Standards to support your teaching efforts while exciting and engaging students. Our onsite programs strive to foster a sense of wonder and stewardship for the natural world while increasing conservation literacy.
We welcome students of all abilities. Please be sure to mention any special needs or disabilities when registering so that we can provide the most comfortable environment for their needs.
Base programs start at $100 for an hour long presentation for a maximum of 35 people. (For example, a school group of 30 students and 5 adults.) Additional activities are $50 per half hour increment. Program cost does not include cost of admission; admission fees are due upon arrival. Programs must be paid for two weeks in advance or have proof of a Purchase Order the day of the program.

Second graders from Cherry Road Elementary, Jamesville Elementary, and Soule Road Elementary Schools visited the zoo to learn all about bats. Students met an Eastern screech owl and Tlemeha, the zoo’s white-winged vampire bat. Students’ knowledge of bats was tested during an interactive and energetic ‘bat quiz’ in the zoo’s classroom.

The evening ends with a treat of milk and cookies! The program can be customized for specific patch/badge requirements or matched up to school curricula.
